Entry Requirements

Applicants usually hold a QQI Level 5 qualification in a related area such as woodwork, furniture making, design, or construction, but we also welcome learners who have gained skills through experience rather than formal education. An interest in working with materials, a hands-on approach, and a willingness to develop advanced practical skills are essential. Mature applicants are very welcome.

Career Opportunities

The successful completion of the QQI Level 6 award in Furniture Design and Making will enable applicants to work independently and or in a supervisory capacity within a furniture design and manufacturing environment.

Third Level Links/Progression

Graduates can progress to related degree programmes in furniture design, product design, and craft at third-level institutions through the Higher Education Links Scheme. Many also use this qualification to specialise further in areas such as furniture making, wood technology, or contemporary craft practice.
