Furniture Design and Making Award (QQI 5M2012)

Learn the core skills of woodworking and furniture construction through practical, hands-on projects in a fully equipped workshop. This course introduces you to the tools, techniques, and processes used in furniture making and carpentry, helping you develop confidence working with materials, interpreting drawings, and completing builds from initial idea to finished piece. You’ll also gain essential workplace skills that support safe, professional practice in the construction and craft sectors.

Furniture Design & Making (5M2012)

Duration

1 year – September to May (full-time)

Entry Requirements

Applicants should hold a Leaving Certificate, LCA, LCVP, or QQI Level 4 qualification, though those without formal qualifications may also be considered. An interest in carpentry, making, or working with tools is important, along with a willingness to learn practical skills. Mature applicants are very welcome.

Third Level Links/Progression

Graduates can progress to the Level 6 Advanced Woodwork with Furniture Making and Design course in Pearse College. Many also use their QQI Level 5 award to apply through the Higher Education Links Scheme to related degree programmes in furniture design, craft, construction, or design-based disciplines at third-level institutions in Ireland.
