Preparation for Further and Higher Education (with ESOL)
The Preparation for Leaving Certificate with ESOL Programme is a Transition Year course which will allow learners to come back to education and prepare for either the Leaving Certificate or a Further Education and Training Course. As such, it’s a starting point for all other courses in Pearse College and beyond.
Course Content
You will take a variety of subjects including Communications (4N0689), Computer Applications (4N1112), Maths (4N1987), and English as a Second Language (4N1180).
Reading and writing support classes are also offered.
Certification
QQI Level 4 Component Certificates in General Learning.
Duration
1 year – September to May (full-time)
Entry Requirements
This course is open to everyone of all backgrounds and experience. Students will meet with the tutor and discuss their needs and suitability for the course.
Students will also take an English test.
Where can I go from here?
Many students who have completed this course of study have gone on to complete a Leaving Certificate or a QQI Level 5 course in Pearse College.

General Learning QQI Award (4M2010)
This is a QQI Level 4 part-time BTEI course which will enable learners to come back into education and training and prepare them for employment. This course runs over two years.

You will take a variety of subjects including Customer Service (4N1989), Horticultural Science (4N0682), Historical Studies (4N3306), Personal Effectiveness (4N1132), Functional Maths (4N2138), Numeracy Support.

Entry Requirements
The Back to Education Initiative (BTEI) provides part-time Further Education programmes for young people and adults. This course is free to those who are eligible for BTEI.

Where can I go from here?
There are opportunities to progress to QQI Level 5 courses in Pearse College such as Food & Bio Science, Pre-University Marketing & Business, Architecture and Coding and Software Development. Alternatively, learners could progress to our Adult Leaving Certificate Programme.

Free to those eligible under the BTEI initiative (i.e. those in receipt of a Social Welfare payment and/or with a valid medical card).

General Studies QQI Award
This Liberal Arts programme aims to provide a foundation in subjects which students may wish to study at Third Level. The University Access Course is aimed at students who wish to progress to a degree in the Faculties of Arts, Humanities & the Social Sciences. This course also introduces students to methods of study, writing skills and research skills that are required for successful participation in Third Level education.
This University Access Course (UAC) is aimed at mature students who were previously unable to fulfil their educational potential and who now wish to complete a Foundation course in preparation for third level studies.
Students who successfully complete the University Access Course (a complete award with 3 academic distinctions) can avail of the Pearse College link into Trinity College Dublin for a degree course in the Faculties of Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences. Please note students who wish to apply for facilitated entry to TCD must be 22 and over as of 1st January of year of application to our UAC course

Cultural and Heritage Studies QQI Award (5M2154)
The Archaeology, Folklore & Heritage Studies course is particularly suited to school leavers and adults with an interest in cultural and heritage studies who wish to return to education. Students will be introduced to key areas of Irish Archaeology, Folklore, Local History and Heritage studies, enabling them to pursue employment opportunities in the tourist industry. Others may wish to continue onto Higher Education in colleges such as Maynooth.
There will be several field trips to places of archaeological, historical, and cultural interest including museums, ancient sites and areas of archaeological interest.
