Software Development QQI Award (5M0529)

This one-year Information Technology course introduces the learner to the digital architecture and theoretical concepts underpinning IT infrastructure and Software Development. You will study essential topics such as STEM maths, programming, software architecture and web authoring, Scratch with Rasbery PI and Maths for Information Technology. All these subjects create a solid background knowledge for entry to many third level courses, such as Computer Science, Data Analytics, Business Computing and many others.

QQI Level 5 Certificate in Software Development (5M0529)

Duration

1 year – September to May (full-time)

Entry Requirements

Students should have an interest in computing and a level of education to the Leaving Certificate or its equivalent. This should include Mathematics. The college also will consider applications from mature students who do not meet these requirements. This course may also suit applicants with suitable transferable skills who are seeking a conversion course to IT.

Career Opportunities

The IT sector and smart economy is the fastest growing job sector at the moment. This course offers QQI Level 5 certification which is a qualification in its own right, or can provide a pathway to Level 7 or 8 in the Institutes of Technology/Colleges. It is ideal for those considering further study in computer science and software engineering.

Third Level Links/Progression

Students who achieve Level 5 QQI certification can gain entry to a number of Third Level courses – such as Computer Science (Maynooth), Computer Science (TU Dublin), Computer Science (UCD) – via the CAO application process and the Higher Education Links Scheme. For more information, click here
