January 2023 Part-Time Flexi Skills to Compete Courses
The Flexi programme is part-time and available free of charge to BTEI applicants or those in receipt of a social welfare payment and/or with a current medical card. This is a fresh new approach, based on a flexible menu that allows you to pick and choose the courses that you want from a list of options. You can choose to undertake 1 module and attend 1 afternoon/morning per week or you can do 2, 3 or 4 modules at a time. You can choose to undertake modules from the same general area or you could choose from a mixture of sectors.
These classes will be run subject to sufficient numbers enrolling.
Course Content
Modules are offered across a variety of different areas and include:
- Creative Writing (Level 5) – Monday (2pm-4pm) – on campus.
- Special Needs Assisting (Level 5) – Wednesday (9.30am-11.30am) – on campus.
- Child Development (Level 5) or Psychology (Level 5) – Thursday (11.30am-1.30am) – on campus.
Outline of the modules:
Creative Writing (5N4765) – This 12 week course is designed to give learners an opportunity to develop their creative voice through a range of writing – including short stories, fiction, poetry, drama etc. Learners will explore key aspects of the writing process including the possibility of getting published. .
Special Needs Assisting (5N1786) -The aim of this 12-week course is to equip the learner with the knowledge, skill and competence in the practices and principles underpinning the role of a Special Needs Assistant, to enable them to work as an SNA in an educational-based setting.
Psychology (5N0754): This 12-week course introduces learners to psychological perspectives, psychology as a science and psychological disorders. It provides the learner with the knowledge, skills and capacity to understand psychological processes. On completion of the module, learners will have a better understanding of psychology.

Child Development (5N1764) -This 12 -week course provides the learner with an introduction to the theory and practice of child development from 0-6 years. The component aims to promote good practice, equality of opportunity and respect for diversity in lifestyles, religion and culture in early years care.
