This one or two year highly practical programme will equip students with the advanced technical, personal, and interpersonal skills necessary to pursue a career in the medium of photography and other related visual media or to proceed with a high degree of competency to degree level through established links with universities in Ireland and the UK.

Certification

QQI Level 5 Award in Photography (5M2094) – 1st Year

QQI Level 6 Award in Photography (6M3732) – 2nd Year

Duration

2 years – September to May (full-time)

Entry Requirements

Leaving Certificate, LCA or QQI Level 5 award. Applicants may be accepted without formal academic qualifications. At interview you may present a portfolio of visual work which is desirable. Mature applicants are welcome.

Assessment

Students are continually assessed through practical project based assignments including portfolio preparation, ongoing critical review of work, production of visual promotional materials, running a professional studio, the event management of major exhibitions.

Career Opportunities

The wide variety of visual, graphic, design and technical skills gained on the course also makes students very successful in direct employment in the photographic industry.

Third Level Links/Progression

Our students have progressed to degree courses in Ireland, UK and Europe and having completed the National Certificate in Photography may be exempted from the first year of the degree course.

Students who achieve Level 5 QQI certification can gain entry to a number of courses via the CAO application process and the Higher Education Links Scheme. For more information, click here
