Pathway Apprenticeship Laboratory Technician/ Analyst

Laboratory Techniques QQI Award (5M3807)

The purpose of this award is to enable the learner to acquire the knowledge skill and competence to work independently and under supervision in a science laboratory and to progress onto a Laboratory Technician Apprenticeship or a Laboratory Analyst Apprenticeship. QQI Level 5 Certificate in Laboratory Techniques (5M3807).

Duration

1 year – September to May (full-time)

Entry Requirements

Note this course is limited to 18 students

Leaving Certificate (LC Established, LCVP or LCA) or equivalent.

For mature applicant’s appropriate experience will be considered in lieu of formal qualifications. NFQ level 4 applicants will be expected to demonstrate a standard of knowledge, skill and competence equivalent to NFQ Level 4 when accessing a Level 5 programme.

Aptitude: Applicants must have a motivation to learn, an interest in the subject and the ability to acquire the knowledge, skills and competencies set out in the course.

Employability Statement

On completion of this Programme, learners may secure placement in a Laboratory Technician/analyst apprenticeship program which incorporates industrial training and higher education qualifications. This course is suitable for those who are interested in pursuing a career in a laboratory environment in the biopharma, chemical manufacturing, medical devices and diagnostics, food and drink, analytical testing laboratories.

Alternatively on successful completion of the course students may gain entry onto university programs that are separate from apprenticeship programs.

Learning Outcomes

Students are able to progress to a number of universities including UCD, DCU, Maynooth and TUD.
