This one-year Information Technology course introduces the learner to the digital architecture and theoretical concepts underpinning IT infrastructure and Software Development. You will study essential topics such as STEM maths, programming, software architecture and web authoring, Scratch with Rasbery PI and Maths for Information Technology. All these subjects create a solid background knowledge for entry to many third level courses, such as Computer Science, Data Analytics, Business Computing and many others.

Entry Requirements
Students should have an interest in computing and a level of education to the Leaving Certificate or its equivalent. This should include Mathematics. The college also will consider applications from mature students who do not meet these requirements. This course may also suit applicants with suitable transferable skills who are seeking a conversion course to IT.
Career Opportunities
The IT sector and smart economy is the fastest growing job sector at the moment. This course offers QQI Level 5 certification which is a qualification in its own right, or can provide a pathway to Level 7 or 8 in the Institutes of Technology/Colleges. It is ideal for those considering further study in computer science and software engineering.

Students are offered a good balance of practical and theory-based skills including: scientific experiments, garden design, plant propagation, plant care and identification.

Entry Requirements
- Education: No formal education or qualifications are required although applicants may have participated in primary and secondary education. Applicants will be expected to demonstrate a standard of knowledge, skill and competence equivalent to NFQ Level 5 when accessing a Level 6 programme.
- Aptitude: Applicants must have a motivation to learn, an interest in the subject and the ability to acquire the knowledge, skills and competencies set out in the course.
- Previous Experience: Applicants must be able to demonstrate a moderate range of knowledge, skills and competencies relevant to the course, be able to work with responsibility and demonstrate the ability to work on their own initiative.
Career Opportunities
The successful completion of the QQI Level 6 award in Furniture Design and Making will enable applicants to work independently and or in a supervisory capacity within a furniture design and manufacturing environment.
