Entry Requirements
In order to qualify for the Adult Leaving Certificate course:
- No previous academic records are necessary.
- An interview is compulsory.
- International students must sit English language and Mathematics tests unless previous students of the college.
Third Level Links/Progression
Many students use the Leaving Certificate to gain employment or to go on to further study. The Adult Leaving Certificate course assists entry to the Science and Business area as well as the Arts / Humanities at third level. It is not only recognized in this country but it is also very highly regarded in many other countries as a qualification for entry into third level colleges. Finally, it is especially useful for mature students embarking on a total career change.

September 2022 Part-Time Flexi Skills to Compete Courses
QQI Levels 4 and 5 component certificates
The Flexi programme is part-time and available free of charge to BTEI applicants or those in receipt of a social welfare payment and/or with a current medical card. This is a fresh new approach, based on a flexible menu that allows you to pick and choose the courses that you want from a list of options. You can choose to undertake 1 module and attend 1 afternoon/morning per week or you can do 2, 3 or 4 modules at a time. You can choose to undertake modules from the same general area or you could choose from a mixture of sectors.
These classes will be run subject to sufficient numbers enrolling.

Modules are offered across a variety of different areas and include:
- Computers for Beginners (Computer Applications, Level 4)– Mon (9am-11am) -on campus.
- Word Processing (Level 5) – Mon (2pm-4pm) – on campus.
- Work Experience (Level 4) – Tues (9am-10am) – on campus.
- Reception Skills (Level 4) – Tues (10am-12.30pm) – on campus.
- General Office Skills (Level 4) – Weds (9am-11am) – virtual online class.
- Marketing (Level 5) – Weds (10am-12.30pm) – virtual online class.
- Business English (Level 4) – Thurs (9am-11am) – on campus.
- Business Calculations (Level 4) – Fri (9am-12.30pm) – on campus.
- Know Your Rights (Legal Practices & Procedures, Level 5) – Fri (9am-11am) – on campus.
Outline of the modules:
Computers for Beginners (Computer Applications, Level 4) – This course is designed to provide the learner with the knowledge, skills and capacity to effectively use a range of common computer applications; such as databases, spreadsheets, graphics software etc.
Word Processing (Level 5) – This course aims to equip the learner with the knowledge, skills and competence to use a word processing application to produce documents in a variety of contexts to a mailable and publishable standard.
Work Experience (Level 4) – Looking to re/enter the workforce? Start your future now with this Work Experience Course.
Reception Skills (Level 4) – This course aims to ensure that the learner is equipped with the knowledge, skill and competence to work in a reception area or front office environment under supervision, or progress to further education or training.
General Office Skills (Level 4) – This course aims to equip the learner with the knowledge, skill and competence to perform administrative functions within an office environment, including duties and key responsibilities.
Marketing (Level 5) – This course aims to equip the learner with the knowledge, skills and competence to operate effectively in a range of marketing related contexts using the principles and concepts underpinning marketing practice.
Business English (Level 4) – This course aims to provide the learner with the skills, knowledge and competence to communicate confidently, accurately and effectively in English in business and work situations.
Business Calculations (Level 4) – This course aims to equip the learner with the knowledge, skill and competence to perform mathematical calculations in a business environment and interpret and present their results effectively.
Know Your Rights (Legal Practices & Procedures, Level 5) – This course aims to equip the learner with the knowledge, skill and competence in legal practice and principles to enable the learner to appreciate the role of law in a range of employment contexts and within their personal lives.

Front Office, IT and Reception Skills is an excellent course for refreshing/updating skills for anyone who has been out of formal education or the workplace for a period of time.
It also offers fantastic learning opportunities and skills for anyone hoping to continue their studies at a higher level. Progression paths include moving onto many QQI Level 5 Business courses in our college, with some students continuing their studies all the way to our Level 6 courses in Advanced Computer Skills for Work.
The Front Office, IT Reception Skills Course is a part-time QQI Level 4 course (and it is a BTEI course). It is designed for people seeking to work in the reception and business areas.

Where can I go from here?
Many of our students successfully secure employment working as office administrators, clerical officers and receptionists in a variety of companies. Other students choose to continue their studies on our QQI Level 5 Business Through Computers (BTC) course to further enhance their office skills and employability.

This is a QQI Level 4 part-time BTEI course which will enable learners to come back into education and training and prepare them for employment. This course runs over two years.

Entry Requirements
- Education: No formal education or qualifications are required although applicants may have participated in primary and secondary education. Applicants will be expected to demonstrate a standard of knowledge, skill and competence equivalent to NFQ Level 4 when accessing a Level 5 programme.
- Aptitude: Applicants must have a motivation to learn, an interest in the subject and the ability to acquire the knowledge, skills and competencies set out in the course.
- Previous Experience: Applicants must be able to demonstrate a moderate range of knowledge, skills and competencies relevant to the course, be able to work with responsibility and demonstrate the ability to work on their own initiative.
